More attuned to the urban and inner-city settings where linear and ultra-modern style houses embrace blacks for streamlined roofing, feature walling, gutters, and trims. Use with ebony timbers and matt finishes for a monochromatic scheme or sharpen up the subtle tones of our earthier colours.

How much is a car key replacement?

There are a wide range of options for replacing your car key, most of which are not carried by your local automotive locksmith or car dealership. Whilst a traditional manual key with no electronic parts retails around $10 to $60, electronic keys are significantly more expensive and cost upwards of $200-500. The cost of a car key replacement is highly dependent on make, model and most importantly, year. The newer a car key is, the more advanced the anti-theft technology.

Types of Car Keys

Before delving into the cost specifics of car key replacement, it’s essential to understand the different types of car keys currently in use. These keys range from the traditional models used in older cars to the sophisticated smart keys employed in most modern vehicles. The type of car key you have plays a significant role in determining the cost of replacement.

Here’s a closer look at the various kinds of car keys:

  1. Traditional Keys: These are the simplest and cheapest to replace. They are the old-style keys used in older cars and have no security features. These can be typically seen as a key blade with a small plastic holder.

  2. Transponder Keys: These keys contain a small chip that communicates with your car’s ignition. The chip sends a unique signal to the ignition when you try to start the car. If the signal doesn’t match, the car won’t start.

  3. Key Fobs/Remote Keys: Modern cars often come with key fobs, also known as remote keys. These not only start your car but can also unlock doors, open the trunk, and sometimes even start the car remotely.

  4. Smart Keys: These are the latest advancement in car key technology. Smart keys allow keyless entry and ignition, meaning you only need to have the key in your pocket to unlock and start the car.

Replacement Car Key Cases

If the functionality of your car key is intact, but its plastic shell is damaged or worn out, a replacement car key case might be the perfect solution. This is a simple and cost-effective alternative to a full key replacement, especially for keys with advanced features like remote controls and smart keys.

A car key case is essentially the plastic shell that houses the key’s electronic components, such as its transmitter chip and battery. By purchasing a replacement case, you can swap the electronic internals of your current, damaged key into the new case.

First, ensure that the new key case is a match for your existing car key model. This ensures that your existing components will fit properly into the new shell. Then, carefully transfer the electronic circuit board from the old, broken key case to the new one. This process typically does not require professional assistance and can be done with basic household tools, saving you time and money.

By opting for a replacement car key case, you can extend the life of your car key without shelling out for a complete replacement. It’s an economical solution that keeps the convenience of your key’s advanced features intact.

We stock a wide range of Ford, Holden, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Volkswagon, Honda, Mazda and other top replacement car key cases on our website. A replacement car key case costs $10-35 and is designed to save you money for a simple DIY job. Click here to see the full range.

Replacement Car Key Remotes

In the unfortunate event of losing your car key or having it stolen, a replacement car key remote is an ideal solution. It’s also a useful option if you’re looking to have an additional key or remote for your vehicle. These replacements come with electronics and transponders pre-installed, which are ready to be programmed to match your car’s security system.

Replacement car key remotes are essentially like blank canvases. They are designed to learn and mimic the unique signal of your specific vehicle once they’re programmed. This process establishes a secure connection between your car and the new key, allowing it to lock, unlock, and start your vehicle just like the original.

While programming a stand-alone remote can often be a DIY task, most keys — especially those with transponder chips — will need the expertise of a professional locksmith. This is because the process requires specialized equipment to communicate with your car’s computer system. Locksmiths are also equipped to cut the key blade, ensuring it fits perfectly into your ignition.

Opting for a replacement car key remote is a convenient and efficient way of restoring access to your vehicle. It offers you peace of mind, knowing you can replace or add to your set of keys as and when needed.

We stock a wide range of complete car keys from top Australian automoticve manufacturers. A replacement car key case costs $10-35 and is designed to save you money for a simple DIY job. Click here to see the full range.

Car Key Blank

Car key blanks are essentially uncut versions of your vehicle’s key. They represent the first step in creating a replacement key, providing the raw material that will eventually be cut into the precise shape needed to fit your vehicle’s ignition.

The blank key is made of sturdy metal and often comes with a small plastic handle for easy use. It is devoid of any cuts or notches — those will be added later based on the unique pattern of your original key or lock. This process is typically performed by a professional locksmith using specialized equipment to ensure the key’s precision.

Blank keys also come in various types to match the different kinds of car keys. For instance, there are transponder key blanks that include a transponder chip. Once the key is cut, this chip will need to be programmed to match your vehicle’s ignition system.

Purchasing a car key blank can be a cost-effective solution, particularly if you’re looking to have an extra key on hand. However, remember that a blank key will need to be properly cut and, in some cases, programmed before it can be used with your vehicle. This might require a trip to your local locksmith or automotive specialist. However, we sell a wide range of car key blade blanks on our website.

REVIEW – 5/5

The Remootio 3 our recommended smart garage door opener for anyone looking to upgrade their garage door, regardless of brand. Innovating upon the previous Remootio 2, the Remootio 3 can now be powered from a standard 5V USB charger or it can draw power from the control board of the gate / garage door opener. The power consumption is also lower than before, dropping from 140mA @ 5v to 80mA @ 5v.

Installation is a simple setup, with an insert inside of the box providing simple and easy-to-read instructions. A QR code will also direct you through to an online manual, or you can refer to the Remootio’s online installation video on YouTube.

The Remotio 3 allows you to control one door or gate out of the box, with the option of adding a second door or gate via an extra sensor (sold separately). It will work on any brand of garage door or gate opener. The 256-bit encryption will also keep your connection secure from interference.

REVIEW – 4/5

The iSmartGate range of smart garage door openers lets you fully integrate your garage door into your Australian smart home. There are three different models available for purchase (Mini, Lite, Pro) with each coming in a tilt / panel garage door (green label) or roller door / gate (blue label) variant.

We installed 6 kits, with three being installed by professional garage door specialists and the other three by regular homeowners, with no prior experience. We found that the installation is a little difficult compared to other smart garage door openers, although plenty of documentation is included with the kits. During testing, we never received error messages or the iSmartGate “No Response” message that other reviewers have noted. Overall, this kit is a friendly option for Australian DIY’ers.

Controlling the iSmartGate is very simple, with the ability to either use the Apple Home or Google Home app. Controlling the door via voice commands also worked well as expected. We were also able to set up GeoFencing so the door opened automatically when we were driving home. We also added the iSmartGate to our end of night routine via the Apple HomeKit and Google Home, which closed garage door if we left it open by accident

Overall, whilst this is one of the most expensive options it’s the most feature-rich. If you’re wanting to get the most out of a smart garage door opener, this is our recommendation. Check the chart below to find the best kit for you!

Merlin MYQ Review

Merlin MYQ Smart Opener

SPECIFICATIONS

Works With: 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, Bluetooth

WHERE TO BUY

Wholesale Garage Store
eBay

REASONS TO BUY

+ You have a Merlin garage door opener and don’t want to set up voice control
+ Well-designed mobile app (iOS and Android)
+ Also include PE Beams to prevent closing the door onto an object
+ Incredibly fast and hassle free setup

REASONS TO AVOID

– Locked to only Merlin MYQ garage door openers (no support for older Merlin models, or other brands of garage door openers)
– No Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, Google Home support.
– No voice control, you can only operate from an app

REVIEW – 3/5

The Merlin MYQ smart garage door opener offers limited functionality when compared to other smart garage door openers. That having been said, what it does, the Merlin MYQ does well. The MYQ bundle includes a set of PE Safety beams, notably missing from other smart garage door opener kits. Without installing these IP44 rated safety beams the kit will refuse to operate, preventing any possible damage to your property.

The installation process for the Merlin MYQ smart garage door opener is blisteringly fast, with the kit wirelessly connecting to your Merlin MYQ garage door opener. We had our test kit set up in less than 5 minutes after opening the box. The app itself is fantastic and easy to use, however, we would like to see more features come to the platform in the future.

With no Apple, Samsung or Google compatibility we are notably missing voice control. This means that if you’re on the way home in the car, you need to stop in the driveway, unlock your phone, navigate to the app, then connect to the door and open the door.

When compared to other smart garage door openers in the market, the lack of voice control seems like an oversight we hope is soon corrected. For now, we’d only recommend the Merlin MYQ kit if you have a new Merlin MYQ compatible opener, you want a simple and fast setup and you’re happy to use just the app to open and close the door.

Meross MSG100 Review

Meross Smart Opener

SPECIFICATIONS

Works With: Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant / Google Home, SmartThings, 2.4GHz Wi-Fi

WHERE TO BUY

Meross Direct

REASONS TO BUY

+ Responds quickly to open / close commands with little to no lag
+ Accessable from CarPlay
+ Suits any garage door opener in the Australian market (not locked to specific brands)

REASONS TO AVOID

– Meross app showed obstruction detection warnings when door was not obstructed (possible solution below)
– Setup was frustrating (related to confusing documentation) for a few of our DIY install testers
– App confused the door’s status with being open when it was closed (or the other way around) a few times.

REVIEW 2/5

Meross produce two different versions of their MGS100, with one designed for Apple HomeKit and one for everything else (Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Samsung SmartThings). There’s a handy compatibility checker on their website, however, at time of writing we noted a number of newer openers introduced over the last 1-2 years are not present.

Installation was frustrating for a few of our DIY install testers, taking around 30-45 minutes. Part of this was related to the included documentation describing two wires and two places to connect them, whereas two tested garage door openers had four points where wires could connect. Once we achieved the correct spots, the kit worked straight away. However, the documentation was difficult to troubleshoot the issue.

We also ran into an interesting issue with the obstruction detection warning popping up when nothing was wrong. We worked out that the garage door opener was closing faster than the default setting, which when we changed on the settings page stopped the error from occurring. However, if you’re using this to check if the door was open or closed away from home, you’d think there was a problem.

When compared to the simpler setup of other smart garage door openers, coupled with a similar set of features, it’s hard to recommend the kit when there are better offers out there. Hopefully, Meross streamline its installation process in the future.

Colorbond Colour Chart for Garage Doors

Tips for choosing the right garage door colour

When you are looking to purchase a garage door, you like to think about all the features of the door, such as how it opens, the lifespan of the springs, ability to add an automatic garage door opener, locks, and handles – but there is one feature that is often overlooked – the colour. Taurean Door Systems manufacture garage doors in the full Colorbond range.

Colorbond Colour Chart for Garage Doors

Many people think that the colour of the garage door is an unimportant feature, but it can make a difference to your home. That is why you must take the time to pick the right colour for your garage door.

Picking the right garage door colour can brighten up the look of your home and increase street appeal. Unfortunately, many people aren’t sure how to go about choosing the right Colorbond colour. We have gathered some tips that will help you pick the right colour when looking at your new garage door.

Think About the Colour of Your Home

The colour of your home can often determine what colour garage door you pick. After all, you want the garage door to complement the colour of your home, not clash with it. For example, if your home was a soft beige colour and you picked a bright orange door, while your home is trimmed in red or brown, it might not be visually appealing.

Before picking a colour, think about the colour of your home. If you have a home that is a bolder, brighter colour, such as green or red, you may want to go with a softer tone for your garage door. A white garage door will complement the palette of your home.

On the other hand, if you have a softer colour home, such as white, grey, or beige, you may want to pick a Colorbond colour that isn’t the same as your home. Picking a garage door that is the same colour as your home will give your home a washed-out look.

Decide How Bold You Want Your Home to Be

The garage door is one thing that can make a house stand out and catch people’s attention. Before purchasing a garage door, you need to decide how bold and attention-grabbing you want your home to be.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • Do I want my home to attract people’s attention?
  • Do I just want to blend in with the community?
  • Do I want to add a pop of colour to my home?

How you answer these questions will determine what colour you purchase. If you want to grab people’s attention or add a pop of colour, you will want to pick a darker colour such as green, black, charcoal, or blue. However, if you want to be subtle and blend in, you will want to pick a lighter colour, such as beige or white.

How-To Lubricate Your

How to lubricate a garage door

Automatic garage door openers simplify our lives. However, without regular maintenance, these modern-day conveniences might begin to make too much noise, and can even malfunction or break. Accordingly, learning how to lubricate garage door parts for proper operation and continued use is important. You should ideally aim to lubricate the moving parts on your garage door about once every six months to keep everything moving smoothly.

With the proper tools and materials, anyone can learn how to grease garage door rollers and other components. While you might be tempted to reach for standard WD-40 to lubricate your garage door, you’ll actually want to avoid using it for this task because it can attract dirt, which can create additional problems.

Instead, use white lithium grease or silicone spray. Having a rag on hand is useful for ensuring even lubricant application as well as cleaning up drips or overspray.

How-To Lubricate Your

Before thinking about how to grease a garage door, there are a few other key maintenance tasks to complete. These include inspecting the rollers and hinges, tightening the chain, and checking to make sure that all of the nuts and bolts on the door are tight. When performing these maintenance tasks, you may identify other potential issues to address that could be contributing to the excess noise that your garage door is making.

After you complete these maintenance tasks, shut the garage door and disconnect the power supply before moving on to the steps below.

STEP 1: Clean and wipe down garage door tracks.

The first step for how to lubricate garage doors is to clean the garage door tracks. The tracks need to be clean to allow the rollers to move smoothly along them as they open and shut the door, but they should not be lubricated.

Begin by wiping away or vacumming any dust and large debris off the tracks. Then, use a damp rag to wipe away any dirt or dust that remains. If needed, you can try using an automotive brake cleaner to loosen and remove stubborn and stuck-on messes.

STEP 2: Lubricate door hinges and rollers

After cleaning the tracks, it is time to move on to lubricating some parts. When you’re thinking about how to lubricate garage door rollers and hinges, remember that using lithium-based grease or silicone grease is best. Wholesale Garage Doors sell garage door lubricant online, with free postage across Australia

To lubricate the hinges, carefully lift up the door (or have someone help you lift it). As the door bends along the track, spray or wipe the hinges with the grease. Next, you’ll need to lubricate the rollers, which are connected along the track of the door next to the hinges. Using the thinner straw attachment for the grease will make it possible to lubricate the small ball bearings located within these rollers.

STEP 3: Lubricate bearing plates and springs.

You’ll need a step ladder for this next step. Most panel lift and sectional garage doors have springs along the top of the opening. The bearing plates, which have a circular shape, are located on each side of the springs. Both the bearing plates and springs should be lubricated to ensure proper operation.

To lubricate these parts, thoroughly spray or wipe them down with the grease. After applying some grease, you should open the garage door. This motion will help ensure that the grease gets spread around more evenly. If you notice that the springs on the door are bent or damaged in some other way, they’ll need to be replaced. Again, Wholesale Garage supplies a range of great, high-quality garage door springs with free postage.

STEP 4: Lubricate the garage door opener rail and bar.

The next step for how to lube a garage door is to spray the grease on the garage door opener rail. If you aren’t familiar with the rail, it is the part of the door that runs parallel to the ceiling in the garage. You can also identify the top rail bar by looking for the part of the door that the chain travels along. Since the chain moves along the top of this rail, this is the area that will need grease.

The arm bar connects the garage door to the top rail. You should also spray or wipe this piece with grease to ensure smooth operation.

If you have a newer garage door opener with a belt rail, you will not need to lubricate this. Belt rail garage door openers require less maintenance on an ongoing basis.

STEP 5: Lubricate the lock and test everything

Finally, apply your lubricant to the lock on the garage door. Doing so will keep the lock from rusting and make it easier to lock and unlock the door.

Then, reconnect the door’s power supply and test it to see how it works. Listen and look closely as the door opens and closes to identify whether it is moving and sounding better than before. If lubricating the door doesn’t seem to have done the job, it may be time to schedule an appointment with a garage door technician to assess the issues.

Learning how to lubricate a garage door is an important home maintenance task. Keeping your garage door and its moving parts lubricated will help extend the door’s lifespan and keep it operating smoothly and quietly.

Fortunately, lubricating a garage door isn’t too complicated. Following the steps outlined above will help you complete this task on your own.

Should you choose a timber or timber-look garage door?

If you have finally decided that you want a wooden look for your garage door, you will now face a difficult decision. You must decide whether to go with an actual timber door made out of solid wood or a timber-look garage door made out of synthetic materials and metal.

  • Low maintenance
  • Strong, secure, and durable
  • Termite and rot-resistant
  • Ability to customise your garage door colour and finish by choosing from a variety of colours
  • Affordable, budget-friendly garage door option

Many homeowners have their garage roller doors installed, then promptly forget about them. That us, until there is a problem and the door stops operating. In fact, your garage roller door or panel lift door should be serviced by a garage door professional on a regular basis. Most manufacturer’s warranty requirements recommend at least one Garage Door Service every 12 months.

Garage Door Servicing and Repair

If you are wondering why servicing your garage door is important, we have gathered some of the top reasons for you.

Keep Your Home Safe Via Regular Servicing

A non-operating garage door can actually prove potentially dangerous. Unfortunately, many homeowners are unaware there is a problem with their garage door until it ceases to open or it won’t come down. Luckily, having a professional come and service the garage door can help prevent accidents from happening. Property, vehicles and loved ones can be hurt if the garage door springs are broken.

A garage door service technician will often spot problems before they get to the point of being catastrophic. Once the problem is identified, the service technician can get it fixed and you will not have to worry about the safety of your family and home. The garage door is the largest opening to your home. Broken parts on garage doors, or a faulty garage door opener, offers easy access to thieves leaving your family vulnerable. Prevention is often better than a cure. This is where regular maintenance and preventative servicing is key to the life of a Taurean Door Systems door.

Avoid Having Your Warranty Voided

Taurean Door Systems are the most trusted manufacturer of residential garage doors because of their warranty. The warranty covers damage to the door, such as cracks, as well as problems with the lock seam.

All Taurean Door Systems garage doors come with a 1 year warranty. The warranty covers damage to the door, such as cracks, as well as problems with the lock seam. Typically, most faults with a garage door appears in the first 6 months. Taurean Door Systems focus heavily on manufacturing excellence. In the 2,500+ garage doors we have sold, only 1 has ever had a fault.

The warranty does provide protection against cracks and breaks, but the manufacturer still expects the homeowner to do their part to keep this from happening to their garage door. Regularly servicing your garage door can prevent these problems from happening and keeps the door running well.

Failure to schedule a Garage Door Service regularly for your garage door could result in the warranty being voided by the manufacturer. This is especially true if your motor has worked overtime for your door. A voided warranty means you would not longer be covered if something were to happen. If your garage door and opener failed, you would have the added expense of purchasing an entirely new setup. If regularly serviced, you would have the garage door and opener repaired free as part of the warranty.

How Much Does A Garage Door Cost?

How much does a garage door cost?

If your garage door breaks down or you’ve decided to revamp the kerb appeal of your home, you may be facing the difficult decision of repair or replacement. Before that decision can be made, most homeowners wish to understand how much a new garage door will cost.

How Much Does A Garage Door Cost?

To help you understand the financial aspect of purchasing and installing a garage roller door or panel lift door, we have broken down how to determine your garage door cost. This information can help you make an informed decision regarding whether to repair the garage door or simply replace it.

Garage Door Cost Factors

The price of a new garage door can vary dramatically. A single garage roller door price can be as little as $775. The price increases depending upon the size, materials used, and even the model of the garage door. The most expensive garage doors can cost as much as $5,200. The cost of your new garage door will include all hardware, brackets and tracks needed to be able to install your new garage door. Some factors that will influence the cost of your garage door include:

  • Materials used – All doors that Wholesale Garage sells are Australian COLORBOND® steel, in a variety of finishes. This includes some garage doors that offer an additional cost finish that replicates the look and feel of timber but with the strength and durability of steel
  • Size – The larger you go, the more it will cost. A common misconception is that there is a ‘Standard Garage Door Size’. There is no standard size, as the door is solely dependent on the size of your opening.
  • Insulated or Un-Insulated – Insulated garage roller doors cost more because of the extra material used to insulate the door.
  • Style – Various makes and models of garage doors come with additional features, such as safety sensors and extra panelling along the bottom to prevent dirt, debris, or water from getting into the garage.
  • Colour – Neutral garage door colours are often the least expensive. However, many doors can be customised in various colours to match your home’s exterior décor at little or no additional expense.
  • Automation – Why would you manually open your brand new garage door? The cost of an automatic garage door opener that works with a remote is just $300. We highly recommend the Australian-owned Auto Openers, as their openers come with a fantastic 10 Year Warranty.

Wholesale Weatherseal Guide

How to choose garage door weatherseal

Garage doors are the largest access point to the home, so having a faulty garage door weatherseal can expose your garage to the elements. For many Australians, this also includes letting in spiders, the occasional mouse and if you’re particularly unlucky, even a snake.

All new garage doors come with new weatherseal (also known as weatherstripping), but this will wear out and crack over time. Finding the correct garage door seal all comes down to the brand of your door and what year it was built. That’s not always easy to find, so we’ve written a guide to identifying your garage door seal.

Wholesale Weatherseal Guide

What Is The Best Way To Seal A Garage Door?

There are two main ways to seal your garage door, garage door floor seal and garage door bottom seal. The garage door bottom seal slides into the channels of your roller or panel door. Every brand of roller door has its garage door seal, including B&D Doors, Gliderol, Steel Line Garage Doors and Taurean Door Systems. Getting the correct brand of door seal is important, otherwise, your seal will not sit in the channel of your door.

The garage door floor seal will universally suit every brand of garage door, as it sticks to the ground itself. We stock the Auto Openers Floor Seal, which acts as a weather stop or garaseal. It’s strong enough to drive cars or even trucks over the top and will prevent water from getting into your garage. It was very popular during the mouse plague in Australia as it stopped rodents from getting into Australian homes.

How to Identify Your Door Seal

Finding the right garage door weatherseal can seem tricky, but is very simple to work out. Over time, the overall width, colour, shape, number of ridges and style have changed drastically. However, the ‘profile’ of the seal has remained the same. The profile is the very edge of the seal, which slides into your garage door tracks.

  • Start by removing a small piece of your garage door seal. It only needs to be 10-20mm in length.
  • Compare the shape of the edge of your seal to our one-page seal guide.

B&D Doors

B&D has two main profiles of the garage door seals, for roller doors made pre-1996 and post-1996.

  • Pre-1996 roller door seal is 50mm wide, with a 3mm “T” section. The “T” section looks triangular.
  • Post-1996 roller door seal is 52mm wide, with a 5mm “T” section. The “T” section is rounded.
  • If you need a wider seal, B&D Doors also make a “Universal” seal. This seal is 85mm wide, with a 5mm “T” section. Again, this section is rounded.

Steel Line Garage Doors

Steel Line roller doors have one main roller door seal that they have.

  • Used since the 1990s, the seal is 60mm wide, with a 6mm “T” section. The “T” section is flat with short edges.

Gliderol

Gliderol roller doors have used two different types of garage door weatherseal. One was used exclusively in Queensland and Western Australia before September 2015, which is no longer available. Queensland and Western Australia now use the same Gliderol seal the rest of Australia uses and has used for many years.

  • The Gliderol seal is 65mm wide, with a 5mm wide “T” section. The “T” section is flat with short edges.

How To Install Door Seal

Installing your new door stripping or weather seal is very simple and able to be done by anyone.

  1. Remove the old rubber garage door weatherseal by pulling it through the retainer track.
  2. Place your new weather seal into a bucket of warm, soapy water to soften for ten minutes. Whilst waiting, wash the retainer track with a rag to remove any residual grime and dirt, then rinse.
  3. Squeeze a small amount of dish soap in the retainer track to lubricate it. Then, feed the weather seal into the track (ridges of the seal facing outward).
  4. Cut off the excess seal with scissors. If there are caps for the weather seal, put them on the ends.

Manually Opening Garage Door

No Power? Here’s how to open your garage door!

When the power goes out at your home or when you’ve misplaced your garage door remote, you always have the option to open your garage door manually. If you park your vehicle in your garage, it’s a good idea to know how to safely open and close your garage door without power. The process is pretty simple, but there are still some important tips and safety considerations to keep in mind.

Manually Opening Garage Door

How to Open a Garage Door Without Power

You’ll first want to locate the release handle on your garage door. Typically, this handle is red in colour and located near the door itself. Sometimes, the release may look more like a cord than a handle. Either way, it should be pretty easy to spot.

Pulling down on this cord or lever will release the garage door from the garage door opener while keeping the door itself on the tracks. You will likely need a ladder to comfortably reach this handle/cord and pull it with enough force to disengage the door from the powered opener. You should feel some tension when doing this, with a little force required to disengage the door.

Next, you should step carefully off the ladder and lift your garage door manually with both hands. Carefully and gently glide the door along the tracks until it is completely open. Don’t hesitate to ask for help from another person if you need it! If you need to get your car out of the garage, you will need someone to hold the door open for you while you do so. If you don’t, you risk the door falling onto your car, risking injury and property damage. We offer garage door spare parts on our online store in case something goes wrong.

To close the door, you will need to ease it back down carefully by hand; do not let go of the door abruptly, as it will fall and will likely damage the door itself or anything in its path. When you’re ready to re-engage the door on the automatic opener, simply pull the lever or cord again with a fair amount of force.

Important Safety Considerations

When opening a garage door manually, it’s important to keep the path of the garage door clear at all times. Serious injury could occur if the door falls while something or somebody is in its path.

If you want to avoid manually opening your door without power, you might want to consider investing in a garage door opener battery backup.
